A

Plat says to find answers, get knowledge, and to be open-minded.

Q

Which responses to problem of evil protect the image of God? Defend with examples or if no responses are successful, give examples that are not addressed.

A

Give up image of God as being all-good and all-powerful.

Evil is necessary for there to be good. W/o the contrast, we would not know what good is. So God keeps evil in the world so that there can be good.

Things may seem evil from our perspective, but God may know that they’re not evil (anthill analogy). Evil may serve a good purpose. So, God doesn’t get rid of evil because it is actually doing good.

The only way to get rid of evil is to also get rid of our free will.

Existentialism emphasizes freedom to choose and the choices you make should be made
without the assistance of another person or standard. Must accept the risk and responsibility of your choices to wherever it leads.

The reason why he shot the Arab (the sun reflecting off of the Arab’s knife and that it was hot, not threatened) and the way he handled it.

At the end, there was no difference between life and death, everything was the same to him. (Marie and him marrying)

Q

Explain how atheism leads to the Existentialist worldview. Do you argue that atheism has those consequences?

A

Since atheists reject the theist claim that a god exists generally due to a lack of evidence, there is no other being responsible for our actions. Life, purpose, meaning is up to individual. For example, the lack of moral standards, the lack of human nature, the feeling of abandonment are all the consequences that follow from atheism that build the Existentialist worldview.
