What to know about Mesalamine?

A

Yes. Ulceris is for UC only.

YES

Topical anti inflammatory effect on the GI tract. Hypersensitivity to salicylates or aminosalicylates. More likely with sulfasalazine. Rectal mesalamine for distal disease/procitits in UC. Leaves a ghost tablet.

A

YES, can cause staining of the teeth/tongue.

Increased risk of malignancy in patients with IBD, Hematologic toxicities, genetic deficiency of thiopurine methyltransferase increased risk for myelosuppression.

Tysabri, Injection approved for crohn’s disease. Every 4 weeks, discontinue if no response by 12 weeks. PML only available through the REMS TOUCH prescribing program.

A

Entyvio. Injection, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Discontinue if no benefit by week 14.
