Appropriate altitude selection for VFR night flight

A
  • Base altitude selection on the highest terrain within 5 miles on either side of the route
  • At least 1000 ft higher than Max Elevation Figure in the chart for flatlands
  • 2000 ft for mountainous areas
  • Generally at least 3000 ft AGL
    (At the appropriate VFR altitude based on direction)
