• usu metal framework should not be problem as that was previously tried in
• apart from clasps which may have bent slightly
• more likely where wax was processed into the acrylic, then it could be a little tighter
• EG where metal and acrylic meet as wax can compress down but acrylic does not
  (can have the same issue in an acrylic denture or denture flange)

How will you go about adjusting the denture to enable it to seat down?

IF ACRYLIC ISSUE
- can use PIP (pressure indicator paste) for acrylic areas
- like occlude spray used in metal try in stage

• paste applied to denture
• seat denture
• where paste rubbed away = heavy area
• use burr to trim back acrylic in tight area

IF CLASP ISSUE
- use adams pliers to adjust clasp
- don’t adjust clasp too much or they may snap

How will you know whether the denture is fully seated?

• rests - fully engaging?
• major connector - flush with underlying tissues?

• stability
• support
• retention

• occlusion

What are the possible causes of an unretentive partial denture?

• clasps aren’t engaging an undercut - may need to adjust
• flange is overextended - too far down into sulcus so causing denture to pop up (can adjust)
• original design was inappropriate
• nature of the case + abutment teeth (EG bilateral free end saddle)

If your patient complains that they do not like the appearance of their new denture, what will you do ?

• depends on what the complaint is
• if teeth too long or bulbous may be able to adjust slightly
