What is the effect of estrogen on sex?

A

major one for women, and low levels of estrogen lead to vaginal atrophy as well as other adverse effects. Lower Estradiol levels can decrease libido and sexual responsiviity.

What is the effect of androgens on sex?

A

DHEA-S, DHEA, androstenedione, testosterone, dihydrotestosterone, uncertain effect of androgens on female sexual function. Testosterone though can increase sexual activity, desire, arousal, and response. This does not prove that low androgen levels lead to sexual dysfunction however.

Low desire, low arousal, and orgasm difficulties were 43% of all reported problems

What are the Diagnostic criteria for sexual dysfxn in women?

A

guidelines for sexual problems, require that the problem be recurrent, cause personal distress and difficulty. Reports must also differentiate between objective and subjective, and whether it is personal distress or interpersonal relationship difficulty
