Management of prostate cancer

If low-risk disease, usually observation.

If in a young man, brachytherapy (radioactive source is placed into the prostate gland to kill the cancer cells) or traditional radiotherapy

If high-risk disease, prostatectomy.

Prognosis of prostate cancer

Curable

5-year survival rate is 100% if cancer is local.

Treatment can come with significant morbidity:
- dysuria
- urinary frequency
- erectile dysfunction
- rectal bleeding
- incontinence
