About CPT on Brainscape

What is a CPT?

Certified personal trainers (CPTs) are exercise professionals with knowledge of both general fitness and exercise instruction. They have basic medical knowledge and as such should advise clients prior to exercise participation. While CPTs provide fitness assessments for their clients, above all they motivate their clients and make exercise fun.

However, you’ll still have to hit the books to get your certification. You’ll need a high school diploma for most courses and then you need to choose a certification.

There are around fifteen courses that are recognized but you should pick a course that includes training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) and also has the NCCA certification. The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), American Council of Exercise (ACE), and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) all run courses. The National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) runs a more expensive option with free workshops and a 90 day job guarantee.
