Which ventilation modes are available on the ground?
Open or closed
Plus blower or extract override and smoke
Which ventilation modes are available in flight?
Closed or intermediate
Plus blower or extract override and smoke
Which computers are associated with the ventilation system?
AEVC
Fan Speed Controller
What does AEVC stand for?
Avionic Equipment Ventilation Controller
What does the AEVC do?
Controls all fans and valves
What does the Fan Speed Controller do?
Controls speed of blower and extractor dependant on temperature of equipment
What inputs are there to the Fan Speed Controller?
We have no input on this
On the ground, is the ventilation system open or closed when it is hot?
Open
On ground, when will the ventilation system change from the open to closed configuration?
When the temperature is decreasing and reaches 9 degrees
On ground, when will the ventilation system change from the closed to open configuration?
When the temperature is increasing and reaches 12 degrees
How is the ventilation system set up in the open configuration?
Inlet and outlet both open
Everything else closed
Theory is that external air enters the ventilation system and is sent through the avionics equipment and out overboard
How is the ventilation system set up in the closed configuration?
Inlet and outlet both shut
Avionics bay open
Skin Air Isolation Valve open
Cargo Underfloor open
Theory is that the aircraft is cool enough, so air circulates around the cool aircraft skin, and is then vented into the cargo and underfloor compartments
In the air, when will the ventilation system change from the intermediate to closed configuration?
When the temperature is decreasing and reaches 32 degrees
In the air, when will the ventilation system change from the closed to intermediate configuration?
When the temperature is increasing and reaches 35 degrees
Are we normally in the intermediate configuration or closed configuration in the air?
Closed, as this is the configuration for cold temperatures, which it normally is in the air
How is the ventilation system set up in the intermediate configuration?
Inlet and outlet both shut, however there is a small flap in the outlet valve which is open
Avionics bay open
Skin Air Isolation Valve open
Cargo Underfloor open
Theory is that the aircraft is not wanting to lose pressurisation so only a small flap lets air out
How are the extract and override buttons set up in the smoke configuration?
Both to override
How can we tell from the overhead panel if smoke has been detected in the avionics?
Fault light on the extract and override push buttons
What is the theory of the smoke configuration?
All valves close except for the air conditioning valve and the small flap in the outlet valve, so air conditioned air enters the avionics and then is extracted via the outlet flap, removing the smoke.
The Skin Exchange Isolation Valve is closed as we dont want to reintroduce smoke to the avionics
What is the valve setup in the blower or extract mode?
Air conditioning valve open and skin exchange isolation valve open. All other valves closed
When the extract pushbutton is normal, is the extract fan on or off?
On
When the extract pushbutton is in override, is the extract fan on or off?
On
