1

External abdominal oblique, internal abdominal oblique, and serratus anterior muscles

Location: lying under the protection of the latissimus dorsi

2

Latissimus Dorsi Muscle (Location)

Location: originates from the lower six thoracic vertebrae

3

Lumbodorsal Fascia and Crest of the ilium (location)

Insert upon the bicipital groove of the humerus

4

Latissimus Dorsi Muscle (Function)

Function: act to adduct, extend and rotate the arm medially

5

Trapezius

Large triangular sheet
Location: originate from the occipital bone as well as all of the cervical and thoracic vertebrae to insert upon the lateral third of the clavicle, the spine of the scapula and the acromion proess on eiterh sider.

6

Deltoid Muscle

Originate from the insertion points of the trapezius (Two muscles are believed to be the same)

7

Triceps Brachii

Location: seen along the dorsal surface of the humerus

8

Sternocleidomastoid Muscle

Location: insertion point is shown at the mastoid process of the temporal bone and along the superior nuchal line of the occipital bone

9

Erector Spinae Muscles

Series of muscle segments
Location: begin from the sacrum and iliac crest to extend up to the base of the skull

10

Semispinalis Capitis

Consists of numerous muscular slips
Location: extend from the upper six thoracic vertebrae to the occipital bone

11

Erector Spinae and Semispinalis

Function: Are important muscles that serve to extend and laterally rotate the spine

12

Levator Scapulae (Location)

Deep to the trapezius muscles,
Location: extending from the first four cervical vertebrae to the superior angle of the scapula on either side

13

Levator Scapulae (Function)

Function: acting to pull the scapulae upwards and medially

14

Rhomboideus major and minor (Location)

Location: arise from the vertebral spines of cervical 7 through thoracic 5 and insert along the medial border of the scapula btwn the spine and inferior angle

15

Rhomboideus major and minor (Function)

Function: act to adduct and rotate the scapulae

16

Supraspinatus and Infraspinatus muscles (Location)

Location: originating above and below the scapular spine respectively, with both muscles attaching to the greater tuberosity of the humerus and capsule of the shoulder joint

17

Supraspinatus and Infraspinatus muscles (Function)

Function: two muscles act to support the head of the humerus within the glenoid fossa, providing stability to the joint during the actions of other shoulder muscles, especially the deltoids

18

Triangle of auscultation (Location)

Location: situated above the horizontal border of the latissimus dorsi, with the vertebral border of the scapula along with the lower edge of trapezius completing the traingle

19

Triangle of auscultation (Function)

Function: utilized in examination of the heart, lungs, esophagus, and stomach using a stethoscope

20

Lumbar triangle (Location)

Location: exposed portion of the internal abdominal oblique muscle, bordered by the inferior edges of the latissimus dorsi and the external abdominal oblique muscles along with the crest of the ilium

21

Lumbar triangle (Function)

Function: may be the location a rare intestinal hernia
