(Four Ways of expressing

Licet me abire

Licet ut abeam
These three ways can be used to express i must go away with “necesse est”
(Miseret; piget; taedet; paenitet; pudet) Their construction with: objective Genitive and Accusative
Miseret me doloris
Paenitet me sceleris
Take the genitive of the thing which arouses the feeling and the accusative of the person concerned
It pities me of (his) grief; i pity (his) grief
It repents me of (my) crime; I am sorry for (my) crime
Alternative to genitive And accusative construction
Instead of genitive: infinitive/quod clause/neuter pronoun -used to express the source of the feeling
-these are then the subject of the verb.
“Reading bores me” using infinitive clause
Legere me taedet
I am sorry that such great crimes have been committed in this state
Using quod clause
(The fact that such great crimes have been committed in this state repents me)
Me paenitet quod tanta scelera in hac civitate facta sunt
I am ashamed of this
Using a neuter pronoun
(This shames me)
Hoc me pudet
“Interest” and “refert”
“It concerns, it is of interest, it is in the interest of”
Expressing the thing which it concerns with “Interest” and “refert”
- Genitive of person concerned and an infinitive
- an ut clause
- demonstrative pronoun in the neuter singular
Instead of the genitive of the personal pronouns, these ablatives are used: mea, tua, sua, nostra, vestra
Ducis interest/refert opus conficere
It is in the interest of the leader to complete (his) work
Ducis interest/refert ut celeriter abeas
It is in the interest of the leader that you go away quickly
It concerns the leader that you go away quickly
Huc ducis interest/refert
This is in the interest of the leader
Mea interest/refert ut celeriter abeas
It is of interest (with respect to my [affair]) to me that you go away quickly
It concerns me that you go away quickly
Mea is modifying the noun re (first part of the verb refert)
